Summary

As a Deployment Co-ordinator in Volant’s Planning team, you will play a key role in our advanced planning operation — working closely with Correspondents, Editors and Producers to make sure our teams are in the right place at the right time.

This is a fast-paced role that sits at the intersection of editorial, operational and safety planning. You will help deliver high-impact journalism by coordinating the deployment of crews for live events, breaking news, pre-planned packages and interviews — while also contributing editorially to the stories being told.

Working under the guidance of the Advanced Planning Editor, you’ll liaise daily with Newsgathering, the Editorial Support Unit and the Security team to arrange travel, accommodation, equipment and accreditation — as well as manage shifting priorities and respond to fast-developing stories.

You will also be expected to contribute story ideas and treatments, and script or produce content for broadcast. The role requires editorial confidence, strong communication skills and the ability to think clearly under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate crew and Correspondent deployments for planned and breaking stories, including live events, interviews, packages and as-lives.
• Liaise closely with Newsgathering, the Security team and the Editorial Support Unit to arrange travel, accommodation, accreditation and equipment.
• Support the Advanced Planning Editor in maintaining the forward diary and ensuring coverage plans are properly resourced.
• Respond swiftly and calmly to breaking news — helping to arrange deployments and adjust plans as needed.
• Contribute editorially to the planning and production of stories — including writing treatments, scripts and planning notes where required.
• Communicate clearly with field teams, producers and editors to ensure logistical plans are aligned with editorial goals.
• Maintain accurate records of deployment plans and associated costs.
• Support the safe and effective working of field teams by ensuring duty-of-care procedures are followed.
• Participate in planning discussions and contribute ideas for coverage.
• Carry out other editorial and logistical duties as required.

Requirements

• Experience in a broadcast newsroom, ideally with a background in planning, producing or newsgathering.
• Strong organisational skills and a calm, clear-headed approach to logistical problem-solving.
• Editorial confidence — with the ability to help shape coverage plans and contribute to scripts or treatments.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across multiple teams.
• Confidence managing changing priorities and working to tight deadlines.
• Understanding of deployment logistics, including travel, equipment and safety considerations.
• Awareness of security protocols and editorial duty-of-care responsibilities when sending teams to the field.
• Fluency in Farsi or Dari and English, with strong communication skills in both.
