This is a great opportunity to work on highly skilled live television productions and be part of the Camera Operator team at Volant Media. Reporting to the Lead Camera Operator, working in a team that is expected to deliver live and pre-recorded television shows. This role is responsible for the operation of studio cameras, fulfilling the creative vision of the programme director, in line with the house brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Operation of studio camera equipment.
  • Operating robotic camera systems.
  • Assist floor staff in moving set items between programmes.
  • Assist with camera maintenance as required.
  • Liaise daily and work with Programme Directors across different formats and studios.
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures and escalate any concerns.
  • Patching of cameras.
  • Resolve and escalate camera system issues, liaising with the technical support team.
  • Working under direction from the gallery director.
  • Understand the house style and brand of the channel and specific formats.
  • Understand and apply studio etiquette to everyday working practices.
  • Deal with a changing news agenda and check emails for bookings and updates.
  • Check documentation for specific shows and updates sent by team leads and be proactive in the reading of documentation.
  • Be across changes and how it impacts your role.
  • To undertake all other reasonable duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be physically fit and able to undertake the range of duties outlined in the job description.
  • In-depth understanding of cameras, camera equipment and camera systems.
  • Ability to interact with on-screen talent.
  • To work effectively with other members of the crew.
  • You must have a high level of competence with studio pedestal cameras and remote camera systems.
  • Knowledge of broadcast framing and composition.
  • Be aware of the safety and operational issues on a studio floor.
  • Proven experience as a broadcast Camera Operator in live studio environments.
  • Able to interpret the technical and creative intentions of the director.
  • Experience of the various cameras and mountings you would expect to find in a large studio.
  • To be able to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced live news environment.
  • Good time management skills, and flexible approach to shift work across 24 hours including overnights, weekends and public holidays.
