This role focuses on enabling engineering and product teams to build, deploy, and operate software safely and efficiently at scale. The individual will lead the delivery of self-service platform capabilities and AI-assisted engineering workflows, helping to reduce complexity, embed governance by design, and enhance reliability, developer experience, and delivery performance across teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement self-service capabilities, reusable golden paths, and standardised service templates for efficient software delivery.
  • Provide technical direction across platform domains including compute, Kubernetes, networking, secrets management, observability, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
  • Enable AI-assisted engineering workflows to enhance productivity, automate routine activities, and improve decision-making.
  • Embed governance, security, and compliance controls through policy-as-code and auditable platform practices.
  • Improve platform reliability through SLOs, observability frameworks, resilience engineering, and incident-driven improvements.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, security, and architecture teams to translate business needs into scalable platform solutions.
  • Promote engineering excellence through automation, standardisation, and efficiency-driven practices, including FinOps awareness.
  • Mentor engineers, review technical designs, and support continuous improvement through documentation and knowledge sharing.

Who You Are

  • Experienced in designing and operating internal developer platforms, cloud-native systems, or distributed architectures in complex organisations.
  • Skilled at identifying and prioritising high-impact technical challenges aligned to platform strategy and business outcomes.
  • Demonstrates strong technical expertise across cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, networking, and security.
  • Proficient in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Go, or Java, with experience building platform tools or APIs.
  • Familiar with AI-assisted engineering approaches, including automation and intelligent operational support.
  • Capable of defining and improving technical quality at scale, simplifying systems, and reducing risk.
  • Knowledgeable in platform-as-a-product principles, including developer experience and adoption measurement.
  • Experienced in defining SLOs, monitoring solutions, alerting strategies, and incident management practices.
  • Able to influence across teams, mentor colleagues, and translate technical vision into practical outcomes.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, making trade-offs, and driving alignment on complex decisions.
  • Committed to mentoring others and fostering inclusive, high-quality technical environments.

How to prepare for a job interview at VOIS

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If VOIS uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
