About this Role
Location: Paddington or Newbury
The Digital & IT platform is responsible for designing, building, and operating enterprise‑scale digital and technology capabilities that enable scalable, multi‑market delivery. The platform provides cloud‑native engineering foundations, reusable enablers, and secure services that support fast, reliable, and high‑quality execution across complex value streams. Operating within a multi‑market, multi‑tenant environment, the platform plays a central role in shaping large‑scale digital initiatives and future growth beyond traditional boundaries.
Value Stream Engineering Teams deliver end‑to‑end digital experiences through cross‑functional, product‑centric squads. Each squad owns clear customer and commercial outcomes — from launching new digital propositions to evolving core platform capabilities — using modern engineering practices and cloud‑native tooling.
The Platform Delivery Lead is a senior role accountable for orchestrating fast, predictable, and high‑quality delivery across multiple cross‑functional squads building critical digital and IT platform capabilities. The role ensures strong alignment across engineering, product, architecture, and commercial teams, while removing delivery obstacles and enabling efficient execution at scale.
Given the responsibilities outlined above, the role includes:
- Provide strategic delivery leadership across multiple squads, influencing 40+ FTEs to enable high‑velocity, high‑quality delivery
- Drive effective outcomes across significant annual platform investment, improving efficiency, reducing cycle time, and increasing delivery throughput
- Guiding senior engineering, product, and architecture leaders to align priorities, manage dependencies, and mitigate delivery risk
- Lead cross‑functional delivery governance and forums, enabling fast decision‑making, proactive risk management, and clear communication across Digital & IT, Commercial, Network, and Security stakeholders
What You’ll Do
- Own the delivery operating model for the value stream, ensuring smooth planning, sequencing, and execution of platform increments
- Ensure backlogs are refined, technically feasible, prioritised, and ready for development, working closely with Product Owners and Technical Leads
- Remove delivery blockers, manage cross‑squad dependencies, and anticipate risks before they materialise
- Drive continuous improvement in delivery flow, cycle time, predictability, team productivity, and quality of engineering outputs
- Ensure alignment to architectural patterns, technical guardrails, and non‑functional requirements (performance, security, resilience, observability)
- Shape delivery roadmaps, increment planning, and rollout strategies in partnership with Product, Architecture, Networks and Platform Engineering teams
- Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and urgency across squads to accelerate business value delivery
- Represent delivery status and risks at senior governance forums, providing accurate, proactive updates and options for decision‑makers
- Line Management – Experience coaching, guiding, or indirectly leading large multi‑disciplinary teams, fostering a high‑performance culture across engineering and delivery
- Leadership – Strong ability to unify teams around common goals, drive decisive execution, challenge blockers, and ensure delivery momentum across complex environments
- Communication – Excellent communicator capable of simplifying complexity, aligning diverse stakeholders, and enabling fast, confident decision‑making at senior levels
- Vendor Management – Experience coordinating with external delivery partners, ensuring alignment to timelines, quality standards, and Vodafone engineering and delivery practices
- Agile – Deep experience enabling autonomous, product‑centric agile teams; expert in backlog refinement, flow optimisation, iterative delivery, and scaled agile practices
Who You Are
- Minimum 12+ years of experience overall, including at least 8–10 years in delivery leadership roles within digital, platform, telecom, or large‑scale engineering organisations
- Proven track record managing multi‑squad delivery in complex, multi‑market or multi‑tenant environments
- Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, CI/CD, DevSecOps, cloud‑native delivery, and digital platform operations

- Strong business acumen and experience working closely with Product, Architecture, and Engineering leadership
