The Risk & Governance Specialist plays a critical role within Finance Operations, supporting the Risk & Governance Manager to ensure the function operates with strong, consistent, and transparent governance. As Finance Operations continues to evolve within a transforming organisation, this role helps safeguard the integrity, compliance, and resilience of end‑to‑end processes by embedding effective risk management practices and driving proactive issue resolution. Working across all Finance Operations teams and in close partnership with central Compliance, Internal Audit, and wider control functions, the role ensures that risks, issues, and control gaps are identified early, assessed appropriately, and managed through to closure. The Specialist supports the delivery of improvement actions arising from audits, risk assessments, regulatory needs, and operational learnings — enabling Finance Operations to maintain compliance, strengthen controls, and reduce exposure. This role acts as a key connector between Finance Ops and governance stakeholders, ensuring consistent messaging, clear visibility of risk themes, and alignment of activities to the broader Finance governance framework. By enabling better understanding, stronger discipline, and enhanced collaboration, the Risk & Governance Specialist helps Finance Operations achieve predictable performance, reduce customer and operational impacts, and contribute to a culture where risk awareness and continuous improvement are embedded in everyday ways of working.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the Risk & Governance Manager in maintaining robust governance frameworks, ensuring risks and issues across Finance Operations are consistently identified, assessed, and managed through to closure.
  • Coordinate and track compliance, regulatory, and audit‑driven actions, ensuring timely delivery of improvements that strengthen controls and reduce operational exposure.
  • Facilitate effective risk and issue reporting by maintaining accurate documentation, preparing governance dashboards, and providing clear visibility of emerging themes and trends.
  • Partner with Finance Operations teams to promote strong risk culture, providing guidance on root‑cause analysis, control effectiveness, and best‑practice risk management.
  • Act as a key liaison between Finance Operations, Compliance, Internal Audit, and other control functions to ensure aligned understanding, smooth collaboration, and consistent governance messaging.
  • Support the continuous improvement of Finance Operations processes by identifying control gaps, coordinating mitigation activities, and driving adoption of enhanced ways of working.

Qualifications

Who you are

  • Customer focused, looking to drive and deliver continuous improvement with a pragmatic risk and governance mindset.
  • Track record identifying, assessing, and tracking risks and issues, with the ability to support effective root‑cause analysis and control improvement.
  • Willingness to embed yourself in compliance, regulatory, audit, and assurance processes, through partnering with Compliance, Internal Audit, or similar control functions.
  • Ability to interpret operational data to identify trends, emerging risks, and control gaps, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Skilled in cross‑functional collaboration, with experience influencing stakeholders and driving consistent governance practices across diverse operational teams.
  • Proficiency in documentation, reporting, and governance dashboard creation, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and succinctly.

Deliverables

  • Compliance & Control Effectiveness: Improvement in audit outcomes, reduction in control failures, and timely closure of compliance, regulatory, and audit‑driven actions.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Cycle time for identifying, assessing, and resolving risks and issues; percentage of risks/issues closed within agreed deadlines.
  • Operational Resilience & Control Strengthening: Reduction in error rates, control gaps, and repeat issues across Finance Operations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Effectiveness of cross‑functional engagement with Finance Ops teams, Compliance, Internal Audit, and other control functions (e.g., feedback scores or qualitative assessments).
  • Continuous Improvement Delivery: Number and impact of process improvements delivered, including adoption of enhanced ways of working and controls.
