The Fibre Capacity Analyst is responsible for ensuring sufficient and cost‑efficient capacity across the fibre transport network (access, aggregation, and core), enabling reliable service delivery and headroom for growth. The role combines data analysis, capacity modelling, and cross‑functional coordination to anticipate congestion, trigger augmentations, and optimise utilisation on leased and owned fibre assets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead capacity management across fibre, building and maintaining short‑, medium‑ and long‑term capacity plans for fibre paths, ducts, sub‑ducts, spares, and lit services.
  • Translate demand (RAN rollout, 5G/FTTP take‑up, enterprise orders, IP core uplift, maintenance windows) into capacity requirements at link, node, and route level.
  • Model headroom and risk using thresholds and time‑to‑exhaust with scenario analysis and seasonality.
  • Monitor utilisation trends across access backhaul, aggregation rings, metro, and long‑haul, flagging hotspots and service risk.
  • Produce weekly congestion dashboards and exception reports; recommend tactical and strategic augmentations.
  • Build repeatable analytics via SQL/Python and BI dashboards (Power BI/Tableau); automate data pipelines and model refresh.
  • Raise and track capacity augmentations (buyouts, xWDM expansion, new waves, duct build, leased line upgrades) through design, commercial approval and delivery.
  • Support business cases with ROI/TCO, capex/opex split, options analysis, and risk assessment; present to governance forums.
  • Develop and maintain capacity models for fibre infrastructure, forecasting future capacity needs based on traffic trends, business growth and technology evolution.
  • Provide capacity input into strategic decision making for investment planning and vendor discussions.
  • Drive automation of capacity tracking and monitoring processes and the use of tooling such as telemetry, inventory and analytics dashboards.
  • Collaborate with fibre strategy, fibre planning and fixed‑fibre enterprise teams and support regulatory requirements for capacity.
  • Govern the integration of capacity insights into annual budgeting and delivery cycles.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Extensive experience in telecom network capacity planning, performance management and complex problem‑solving using multi‑domain data‑driven approaches.
  • Proven capability to model capacity scenarios, forecast demand and guide strategic decision‑making.
  • Strong root‑cause analysis skills, with the ability to deliver tactical fixes and long‑term performance improvement plans, and strong communication and stakeholder management.
  • Deep understanding of transport technologies, including Fibre, IP, MPLS and DWDM, and proficiency in Python, SQL, Tableau and Power BI.
  • Hands‑on experience with network monitoring and inventory platforms, producing accurate weekly/monthly capacity and performance reports and dashboards.
