A dedicated and compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant is required for a full-time role starting in September 2026 at a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Hackney, London.

This rewarding opportunity will involve supporting pupils with complex needs on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them access learning and develop their communication, social, emotional, and independence skills. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to provide tailored support that meets the individual needs of each pupil.

The school is looking for a patient, resilient, and proactive Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex needs
  • Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, and learning development
  • Implement strategies and interventions recommended by the SENCO and external professionals
  • Assist pupils with sensory, behavioural, and personal care needs where required
  • Encourage independence and engagement in learning activities
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and families
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND and complex needs
  • Understanding of autism, speech and language needs, ADHD, or other additional needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEND support are desirable but not essential
