VNI Finance is is delighted to be retained by our key, high-growth client in Edinburgh to recruit a Stock Controller.
Reporting to the Financial Controller and leading a team of four, you’ll play a key role across operations, strengthening stock controls, improving forecasting and ensuring effective warehouse processes.
Role Overview
- Lead, coach and organise a team of three warehouse operations colleagues, setting clear priorities, controls and service standards.
- Own stock records, movements, counts and reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and improving the accuracy of information used by operations and finance.
- Analyse stock usage, ageing, shortages and variances; turn the findings into actions that reduce waste, avoid unnecessary purchasing and protect availability.
- Forecast material and equipment requirements against planned deliveries and site demand, working closely with operational leads to anticipate changes.
- Partner with sites and field teams to agree delivery schedules, resolve supply issues and provide clear visibility of stock availability and expected arrival dates.
- Oversee the practical fleet remit, including allocation, utilisation, maintenance schedules, compliance records and related costs, with support from relevant internal and external providers.
- Improve the use of finance, inventory and reporting systems so stock and fleet data is timely, dependable and useful for decisions.
- Review existing processes, introduce proportionate controls and lead change across the warehouse and wider operation, bringing colleagues with you.
- Produce concise reporting on stock position, forecast demand, delivery performance, fleet costs and key exceptions for operational and finance stakeholders.
Experience
- Background in logistics, stock control, supply chain or fleet operations, with a strong financial or commercial understanding; candidates from a finance-led operational role are also relevant.
- Experience managing or supervising a small hands-on team and building effective relationships with multiple sites or operational stakeholders.
- Confident with finance or ERP systems, inventory data and Excel, with the ability to analyse variances and improve the quality of reporting.
- Practical forecasting and planning experience, including matching deliveries or stock levels to changing operational demand.
- A record of improving processes and controls in an environment where getting the detail right matters more than managing high stock volumes.
- Organised, clear in communication and comfortable balancing day-to-day service with longer-term improvements.
