We’re looking for reliable and hardworking Recycling & Refuse Loaders to join a busy waste and recycling service, helping to keep local neighbourhoods clean, safe and environmentally responsible. This is a physically active, outdoor role where no two days are the same. You’ll work as part of a supportive crew collecting household and commercial waste across the borough, in all weathers.
What you’ll be doing:
- Collecting recycling, food waste, garden waste and general refuse from residential and commercial properties
- Assisting with the collection of bulky household waste
- Working closely with your crew to ensure collections are completed efficiently and safely
- Providing helpful advice to residents on correct waste and recycling disposal
- Maintaining high standards of customer service at all times
- Supporting general duties at the depot, including keeping the site clean and tidy
- Following all health & safety procedures and wearing PPE at all times
- Reporting any issues or concerns from your round to your line manager
- Contributing ideas to help improve the refuse and recycling service
What we’re looking for:
- Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions in English
- Physically fit and able to walk long distances and move large wheeled bins
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- A positive team player with good timekeeping
- Strong customer service skills
- Willingness to follow health & safety procedures at all times
Desirable but not essential:
- Basic written and numeracy skills
- Knowledge of local residential roads
- Previous experience in a similar outdoor or manual role
