Chartered Building Surveyor
VNA Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced RICS Chartered Building Surveyor to join a busy Property Services team within a large organisation in Herefordshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Surveyor looking for a varied role covering capital projects, property compliance, building surveying and conservation, working across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial and historic properties.
The portfolio includes Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, historic assets and Scheduled Ancient Monuments, making this particularly suitable for a Building Surveyor with experience working within complex or conservation-sensitive environments.
You will provide professional Building Surveying advice, support capital works and compliance programmes, manage multiple projects and act as Contract Administrator and Principal Designer where required.
The role offers hybrid working, with typically 2 to 3 days per week onsite, alongside the potential for the contract to be extended or become permanent.
RICS Chartered Surveyor status is essential for this position.
The Role
As a Chartered Building Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing professional Building Surveying advice across a varied property portfolio
- Supporting the safety, compliance and effective management of buildings and assets
- Delivering and supporting capital improvement and refurbishment projects
- Managing works across commercial and industrial properties
- Supporting projects involving Grade I and Grade II listed buildings
- Working with historic buildings and Scheduled Ancient Monuments
- Inspecting buildings and identifying defects, maintenance requirements and remedial works
- Providing technical advice on building condition and appropriate repair solutions
- Ensuring buildings and projects comply with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
- Providing advice on conservation, heritage and planning considerations
- Acting as Contract Administrator on a range of construction and property projects
- Acting as Principal Designer where required
- Supporting the preparation of specifications and technical documentation
- Monitoring project delivery, quality, budgets and timescales
- Managing multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously
- Liaising with contractors, consultants, internal teams and external stakeholders
- Providing professional recommendations on complex property matters
- Maintaining accurate project, compliance and property records
About You
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- RICS Chartered Surveyor status
- Strong professional experience within Building Surveying or property
- Experience managing projects across a varied property portfolio
- Strong knowledge of current building legislation and regulatory requirements
- Experience supporting property compliance and building safety
- Good understanding of conservation and planning policy
- Experience working with historic or listed buildings
- Experience acting as a Contract Administrator
- Experience acting as a Principal Designer
- Experience delivering or supporting capital projects
- Strong technical Building Surveying knowledge
- Excellent building defect diagnosis and problem-solving skills
- Ability to provide clear professional and technical advice
- Strong organisation and project-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider Property Services team
Desirable Experience
The following would be particularly advantageous:
- Experience acting as a Nominated Person for Asbestos
- Fire management or fire safety experience
- Experience managing compliance across complex property portfolios
- Significant experience with listed buildings or heritage assets
- Experience working with Scheduled Ancient Monuments
- Experience across commercial and industrial property portfolios
- Public sector property experience
