EAL Co-ordinator As the EAL Coordinator, you will offer specialized support to students learning English as an additional language, helping them transition smoothly into their first school experience in England. This role involves designing customised intervention classes and implementing school-wide strategies to support the integration of EAL students into the curriculum and wider school community. By collaborating closely with students, teachers, and support staff, you will play a pivotal role in fostering the academic, social, and emotional development of our EAL students. Role Requirements: * Planning, resourcing and teaching intervention groups for students with EAL * Teach a Survival English Group for new arrivals * Teach several basic language skills to small groups of new arrivals to support their learning in mainstream classes. Beginner and intermediate levels * To make resources to encourage active learning * Take an EAL homework club after school twice a week (Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4) * To set up and teach Key Stage 4 ESOL when applicable * To share knowledge about students’ abilities and needs in English and to encourage teaching staff to use this knowledge effectively in planning, teaching and student grouping * Supporting mainstream teachers across the curriculum in delivering lessons that enhance the cognitive academic language proficiency of advanced EAL students and provide a strong focus on language acquisition where necessary. * Providing EAL support to mainstream colleagues teaching EAL students to ensure they are engaging with the subject content and making good progress * Liaising with the Heads of Department and other senior managers to ensure that the needs of EAL students are being met within the curriculum Key Responsibilities: * Qualification in EAL or EMA * Qualified Teacher Stats * Experience in teaching students with EAL in a secondary context * Experience of planning, resourcing and teaching intervention groups for students with EAL * Experience of supporting students with EAL in mainstream classrooms * Knowledge of the barriers that can prevent students from making expected progress * Spoken fluency in a community language (Turkish/ Somali) * Knowledge of the various needs that students with EAL experience in mainstream school * Experience of delivering parts of a lesson in mainstream classrooms * Experience in providing training to colleagues VNA Education Recruitment Ltd is a specialised consultancy dedicated to connecting teachers and support staff with both short-term and long-term opportunities in primary, secondary, and special education schools across London and the Home Counties.
