Vix Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support the CAST Front Office application, deployed on embedded Linux and Android devices within customer environments. This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, production support, and mentoring responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, develop, test, and maintain secure, scalable, and reusable software solutions for embedded Linux and Android environments.
- Provide technical leadership in architectural design decisions and collaborate with the Team Lead and Principal Engineer on technical direction and delivery planning.
- Lead and actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Drive high standards of code quality through peer reviews, best practices, and automated testing strategies.
- Mentor and support junior engineers through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents in a timely manner to ensure system stability and customer satisfaction.
- Integrate software with first and third-party hardware in real-time, device-based environments.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
- Minimum 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong experience developing C++ and Java applications running on embedded Linux systems and Android applications deployed to dedicated hardware devices.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, including automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
- Experience integrating software with hardware devices and peripherals.
- Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases (e.g., Amazon Aurora, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Strong focus on automated testing (unit, integration, UI) using frameworks such as JUnit, Jest, Selenium, Cucumber Studio, and Allure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- Experience in automated fare collection systems, including interaction with contactless EMV bank cards, ITSO, and other closed-loop ticketing schemes.
- Knowledge of real-time passenger information (RTPI) infrastructure, including on-vehicle hardware and display systems.
- Familiarity with the Atlassian suite, including Jira and Confluence.
- Strong critical thinking and proactive problem solving skills.
- Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal.
- Composed and resilient under pressure.
