North West - England — 5 days a week on site | Salary is Extremely Competitive, with a Leading Bonus.
First things first: this is a five-days-a-week , in-the-office role in the Northwest. No hybrid, no compressed weeks. If that's a dealbreaker, this isn't the one.
Still reading? Good, because the job itself is a rare one.
A well-established B2B technology and services business is hiring a Director of Account Management to take charge of its UK customer base, with oversight of building the account management function properly for the first time.
There's a team of over 40 already, and managers reporting into you, but the structure around them is yours to design.
- How accounts are segmented
- who owns what
- how performance gets measured
- what a good account review actually looks like.
It's a blank sheet, which is the appeal and also the challenge.
You’ll own the numbers that matter most
- Retention
- Growth from existing customers
- Account profitability.
The retention bar is high. Customers stay, and the expectation is that they keep staying.
A big part of this is making sure your team spots risk early rather than reacting when notice lands.
Alongside that, you’ll be expected to grow revenue from accounts you already have, which means building a real pipeline of expansion opportunities rather than hoping upsell happens.
You’ll keep a hand in directly too.
A small number of strategic accounts will be yours personally, and those relationships run at board level, so you need to be credible sitting in front of C-suite customers talking about their operation rather than your product.
The rest of it covers tightening the journey from contract signature through to customers actually using what they’ve bought, and working closely with Sales, Customer Success, Operations and delivery teams.
You’ll sit on the senior leadership team for the UK business.
- What they’re looking for
- Someone who has led account management, customer success or sales teams through other managers, and can point to retention and growth numbers they personally owned.
- Ideally someone who has built or rebuilt a function rather than only inherited a working one. Strong commercial .
- Comfortable with data, because this business runs on it Experience of subscription or contracted revenue models is important.
Knowing what actually drives customers to leave, and having done something about it, matters more than the sector you did it in.

Five days on site in the North West. Competitive salary, bonus, and benefits.
