We’re working with a growing specialist lender based in Birmingham that values experienced underwriters who can apply sound judgement, not just tick boxes. They’re looking to hire a Manual Underwriter to join their credit team and play a key role in responsible, case‑by‑case lending decisions.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Manually underwriting residential and secured loan applications
  • Reviewing complex cases, including self‑employed and credit‑impaired borrowers
  • Assessing affordability, credit history, and supporting documents
  • Liaising with brokers and internal teams to gather and clarify information
  • Making fair, well‑documented decisions in line with policy and regulation
  • Supporting improvements to underwriting process and policy

What They’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in manual underwriting for specialist lending, mortgages, or secured loans
  • Strong understanding of affordability, credit risk, and income assessment
  • Confident decision‑maker with strong attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of FCA regulations and Treating Customers Fairly
  • Able to commit to three days per week in the Birmingham office
  • Background in bridging, buy‑to‑let, or second charge lending
  • CeMAP or equivalent industry qualification (preferred, not essential)
