Void Maintenance Officer | Dorset in Portsmouth

Location & Contract

• Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire, GB, PO2 9PJ (Bovington/Blanford/Poole with everyday travel)
• Contract: Full Time, Permanent
• Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Salary: Up to £24,000

About The Role

We’re looking for a proactive and detail‑driven Void Maintenance Officer to manage and protect unoccupied Service Family Accommodation (SFA). In this mobile role, you’ll ensure empty properties remain secure, compliant and in excellent condition, ready for the next family who needs them. You’ll work independently with support from the Delivery Manager, carrying out regular inspections, managing reactive maintenance needs and providing essential reports that keep our operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Manage all SFA properties within your Void Maintenance area.
• Complete detailed site survey reports when taking over or handing back a property, supported by a clear photographic record of internal and external condition.
• Record defects, produce rough scopes of work and identify opportunities to improve maintenance approaches for better value and efficiency.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement security measures, ensure properties remain weatherproof, maintained, and notify supervisor immediately of unauthorised access or vandalism.
• Maintain heating and water systems appropriately to prevent deterioration and ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory requirements throughout the Void period.
• Submit regular weekly and monthly reports to line manager and pass relevant utilities information to the Utilities team.
• Ensure all properties leave Void maintenance in no worse condition than when they entered.
• Lead by example across the VIVO contract, working collaboratively with colleagues across VIVO, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), Pinnacle and supply chain partners.

Qualifications

• Previous work experience in housing (ideal, not essential).
• Self‑motivated and comfortable with lone working most of the time.
• Full clean UK driving licence and willingness to cover multiple estates, including wider locations for annual leave cover.
• Independent worker confident using Microsoft Office, tablets and other digital devices.
• Full UK driving licence is essential.
• Beneficial: experience in Void property repairs and maintenance, knowledge of MOD environments or familiarity with asbestos regulations, disability access requirements or energy performance standards.
