About the Role
This multi‑skilled operative will be based across a group of sites including Chicksands, Carver Barracks, Bassingbourn, and RAF Henlow, working at one site per day within a defined rota and within a 20‑mile radius.
The role involves a combination of planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and small works depending on site requirements. Responsibilities include fire alarm testing, weekly water flushing to support health and safety compliance, fitting notice boards, completing minor repairs, filling, painting, and decorating tasks, and maintaining visual standards to keep commercial buildings safe, functional, and presentable.
The operative will work independently or as part of a small team of three operatives, with the majority of time spent lone working. PDA or paper‑based systems will be used to accurately record completed work, materials used, and any issues identified. A work van with fuel card will be provided.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Full UK driving licence.
- Previous experience as a handyperson or semi‑skilled role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, follow written and verbal instructions, and manage workload across scheduled daily tasks.
- Practical skills using hand tools; experience in additional trades is advantageous.
- BPSS clearance required; eligibility to obtain SC clearance.
- Ability to work in a range of environments and conditions.
