Position Overview

  • Location: RAF Fairford (on‑site role) covering RAF Welford
  • Contract Type: Full Time
  • Salary: Up to £55,000 + Company car/Car allowance

Responsibilities

  • Serve as key on‑site stakeholder interface and ensure seamless delivery of contractual outputs across the establishment.
  • Lead and manage direct delivery teams and supply chain partners, ensuring statutory, mandatory and reactive maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and in compliance with MOD and company standards.
  • Take full ownership of maintenance and operational delivery of MOD properties, ensuring planned and preventative, reactive and minor projects are completed on time, within budget and to the highest safety and quality standards.
  • Build, motivate and develop a diverse team of Service Managers, Helpdesk Coordinators, Engineers and supply‑chain partners, providing coaching, mentoring and structured supervision.
  • Manage local budgets, control costs, ensure value for money, maintain strong relationships with contractors and stakeholders, and report on performance, risks and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with JSP 375, Maximo, SMSTS, CDM and other MOD policies, support audits, permits to work, risk assessments and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Substantial experience managing facilities maintenance or construction operations, ideally within a Defence or highly regulated environment.
  • HND or equivalent qualification in Construction, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and proven ability to lead multi‑skilled teams.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, including SMSTS or similar management level certification.
  • Familiarity with MOD policies such as JSP 375, and systems such as Maximo.
  • Exceptional people management and performance management skills, experience in managing Safe Systems of Work, CDM compliance and risk management.
  • Commercial awareness, technical competence, outstanding communication skills and ability to make sound, timely decisions balancing operational efficiency with customer satisfaction.
