- Position: HVAC Engineer
- Location: RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, GB (fairford; occasional travel to RAF Welford)
Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm, plus an on‑call rota from 4:30pm – 8:00am including weekends
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair and improve HVAC systems across RAF Fairford and RAF Welford, spending most of time at Fairford and traveling to Welford as required.
- Plan and carry out preventative maintenance, statutory inspections and mandatory compliance activities on a range of HVAC systems.
- Diagnose faults and conduct reactive repairs to air‑conditioning, ventilation and extraction systems to keep mission‑critical assets operational.
- Complete minor installation and refurbishment works, interpret technical drawings and specifications, and determine effective repair solutions with minimal supervision.
- Maintain accurate records using PDA and tablet‑based systems, ensuring all maintenance documentation is submitted on time.
- Ensure health and safety compliance, including RAMS, COSHH, RIDDOR and other legislation, and report any equipment defects or concerns.
- Build working relationships with military personnel, Defence Infrastructure Organisation representatives and supply chain partners while delivering excellent customer service.
- Support and mentor apprentices, share technical knowledge and contribute to the wider team’s development as appropriate.
- Required Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified HVAC professional with a City & Guilds qualification in Air Conditioning or equivalent industry‑recognised certification.
- F‑Gas Category 1 and Safe Handling of Refrigerants qualifications.
- Strong experience in HVAC maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs.
- Solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including COSHH and RIDDOR.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
- Strong communication skills, self‑motivation and ability to work independently while ensuring high standards of workmanship.
- Experience in commercial environments, knowledge of JSP 375, previous MOD experience, and additional Health & Safety or First Aid qualifications are advantageous.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, previous Security Clearance or hydrocarbon update certification would also be welcomed.
- On‑Call & Additional Earnings
- Participation in out‑of‑hours emergency call‑out rota (4:30pm – 8:00am weekdays, including weekends).
- On‑call allowance of £150 per week.
- Minimum payment of four hours for each attended call‑out, regardless of time spent on site.
- Overtime: Monday to Saturday paid at time and a half, Sunday paid at double time.
