Location: Woking, United Kingdom
Contract: Interim

About the role

Our client, a local authority, is looking for a Valuation Surveyor to join their property team in Woking on an interim basis. The role involves carrying out and reviewing property valuations to support the management of the council’s land and property portfolio.

You will provide valuation advice on a range of assets and transactions, working with colleagues in asset management, finance, legal and regeneration. The position suits a chartered surveyor who is comfortable working independently, managing a varied workload and presenting valuation conclusions clearly to non-specialist stakeholders.

The successful candidate will bring sound valuation experience, good judgement and clear written communication. This is a hands‑on assignment where your experience will be put to work from the outset.

Main responsibilities

  • Carry out valuations of land and property assets in line with the RICS Valuation – Global Standards (Red Book)
  • Prepare asset valuations for financial reporting and accounts purposes, including those required for year-end
  • Provide valuation advice on acquisitions, disposals, lettings, lease renewals and rent reviews
  • Support regeneration and development projects with appraisals and viability advice
  • Inspect properties, gather market evidence and analyse comparable transactions
  • Prepare clear, well‑reasoned valuation reports and recommendations
  • Advise colleagues and senior managers on property value, risk and opportunities
  • Liaise with internal teams, external valuers, agents and legal advisers
  • Maintain accurate valuation records, schedules and supporting data
  • Keep up to date with market conditions, legislation and professional standards

Requirements

  • A degree in surveying, valuation or a related discipline
  • MRICS or FRICS membership, ideally RICS Registered Valuer status
  • Relevant experience in property valuation, ideally within a local authority or public sector setting
  • Sound knowledge of RICS Red Book valuation standards and methodologies
  • Experience valuing a mix of commercial and operational assets, including for financial reporting purposes
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to produce clear, well‑evidenced valuation reports
  • Good communication skills, with the confidence to advise stakeholders at different levels
  • Competence with property management systems, spreadsheets and valuation tools
  • The ability to work from Woking

The offer

  • An interim role based in Woking
  • Duration and rate to be confirmed with candidates

If you are an experienced valuation surveyor looking for an interim assignment in Woking, this role offers a clear scope and a varied property portfolio.
