Overview
We are currently supporting a Local Authority in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and supportive team, contributing to key housing enforcement work within the private rented sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting HHSRS inspections, with a particular focus on damp and mould and housing disrepair
- Assessing properties and identifying category hazards in line with legislation
- Managing enforcement cases from inspection through to resolution
- Serving statutory notices, including Prohibition Notices and other enforcement actions where required
- Liaising with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance
- Supporting the Local Authority’s wider objectives around improving housing standards
Requirements
- Proven experience working within Private Sector Housing / Environmental Health
- Strong working knowledge of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
- Experience dealing with enforcement action, including serving formal notices
- Ability to manage caseloads independently and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
- Excellent communication and report‑writing skills
