An established and growing independent planning consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Town Planner to join its team in Sutton Coldfield. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded planning professional to take on a senior role within a respected consultancy that delivers planning advice across a diverse range of residential, commercial, mixed-use, rural and strategic development projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing client relationships, leading projects, mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continued growth of the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a varied portfolio of planning projects from inception through to determination and appeal.
- Prepare and review planning applications, appraisals, planning statements and appeal submissions.
- Provide strategic planning advice to clients, landowners, developers and other stakeholders.
- Manage client relationships and act as a trusted advisor throughout the planning process.
- Represent clients at meetings, public consultations, hearings and inquiries where required.
- Liaise with local authorities, consultees and professional teams to progress projects efficiently.
- Support business development activities and assist in securing new instructions.
- Mentor and support junior planners, helping to develop technical and professional skills within the team.
- Keep up to date with planning legislation, policy changes and industry developments.
Qualifications
- Qualified with significant experience within either a planning consultancy, local authority or development environment.
- Strong working knowledge of the UK planning system.
- Proven experience managing planning applications and complex development projects.
- Excellent report writing, communication and presentation skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence.
