About the role
My client is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Policy Officer to join our Planning Policy team on a 12-month contract, with a specific focus on identifying, assessing and bringing forward housing sites to support plan-making and housing delivery. This is a key role supporting the council’s response to housing need and national planning policy, working closely with development management, housing, regeneration and external stakeholders. The post offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with attendance in the office required once a fortnight.
Key responsibilities
- Lead on the identification, assessment and allocation of housing sites, including SHLAA/HELAA-type work
- Manage and assess site submissions from landowners, developers and agents
- Prepare and contribute to Local Plan policies, evidence base documents and reports
- Provide professional planning policy advice on housing supply, land availability and deliverability
- Support public consultation exercises and stakeholder engagement
- Work collaboratively with internal services, neighbouring authorities and external partners
