An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Transport Planner to join a growing Development Planning team in Manchester. Working on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, industrial, retail, logistics, and mixed‑use developments across the North West and wider UK, you will play a key role in delivering transport planning solutions that support successful planning applications. This position offers excellent exposure to major development projects, close collaboration with developers, architects, planners, and local authorities, and clear opportunities for career progression within a supportive and technically strong team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and contribute to Transport Assessments (TAs), Transport Statements (TSs), Travel Plans, and other planning‑related transport documents.
  • Undertake transport impact assessments for a variety of development schemes.
  • Analyse traffic, travel demand, parking, and accessibility data to support planning applications.
  • Carry out junction capacity assessments and support transport modelling exercises.
  • Liaise with local authorities, highway authorities, clients, architects, and planning consultants throughout the planning process.
  • Assist in the preparation of feasibility studies and site appraisals.
  • Develop sustainable transport strategies that encourage active travel and public transport use.
  • Support planning appeals, stakeholder engagement, and technical negotiations where required.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and high‑quality technical reports.
  • Manage project tasks to ensure delivery on time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Experience within a transport planning consultancy, local authority, or development planning environment.
  • Understanding of the UK planning system and transport planning process.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse transport data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
  • Knowledge of industry‑standard software such as TRICS, TEMPro, Junctions 10 (PICADY/ARCADY), LINSIG, or GIS packages.
  • Understanding of active travel, sustainable transport, and current planning policy.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership with, CIHT, TPS, ICE, or a related professional institution.
