Interim Opportunity – Principal Planning Officer (Policy) A Local Authority in Hampshire is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer (Policy) to support their Planning Policy Team on an interim basis.
Contract Length: 3 Months
Working Pattern: 4–5 days per week (30–37 hours)
Working Arrangement: Hybrid (office attendance required at least once per fortnight)
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the preparation of a new Local Plan, being developed under the emerging plan-making system. The authority has recently agreed an ambitious timetable and is preparing for an upcoming scoping consultation (June–July). You’ll be brought in to provide additional capacity and take the lead on key workstreams to help drive progress at this critical stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading on SA/SEA Screening and Scoping work
- Managing cross-boundary planning matters and engaging with statutory consultees
- Procuring, managing, and liaising with consultants delivering evidence base studies
- Supporting preparation work ahead of the Local Plan scoping consultation
- Working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
About You
- Recent experience in planning policy and Local Plan preparation
- Strong knowledge of national planning policy, guidance, and legislation
- Experience working within a local authority planning environment
- Understanding of key stakeholders involved in plan-making
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisation and project management abilities, with the ability to meet deadlines
- RTPI membership (or equivalent) preferred
