Vivid Resourcing is currently working with a Local Authority in West Wales to recruit an experienced Food Safety Officer for a long-term contract opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy Environmental Health team supporting food hygiene and food standards regulation across the region.
Key Details:
- Location: West Wales
- Contract: 9–12 months
- Working pattern: Full-time (office-based work combined with site inspections)
- Rate: £50–£55 per hour (DOE)
Responsibilities:
- Carry out food hygiene inspections at a range of food premises in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice
- Undertake food standards work including inspections, sampling, and investigation of labelling or composition issues
- Conduct risk-based inspections and revisit programmes for food businesses
- Investigate food complaints, food poisoning notifications, and hygiene concerns
- Provide advice and guidance to food business operators regarding food hygiene and food standards legislation
- Assess compliance with relevant legislation and take enforcement action where required
- Prepare and serve statutory notices where necessary and support legal proceedings where applicable
- Maintain clear and accurate records of inspections, investigations, and enforcement activity
- Work collaboratively with Environmental Health colleagues and external agencies on complex cases
- Support wider public health and regulatory initiatives within the department
Requirements:
- Relevant Environmental Health qualification (BSc/MSc Environmental Health or equivalent)
- Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or equivalent professional body
- Authorised, or capable of being authorised, under the Food Law Code of Practice
- Demonstrable experience carrying out both food hygiene and food standards work within a Local Authority setting
- Strong knowledge of UK food safety and food standards legislation
- Excellent communication, organisational, and report-writing skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits
