An established and growing planning and environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to join its London office. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering nationally significant energy and renewable infrastructure projects while working alongside a multidisciplinary team of planning, environmental and technical specialists.
The successful candidate will work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the energy sector, including renewable energy generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), electricity transmission infrastructure and other low-carbon developments. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to projects that support the UK's transition to net zero while providing excellent prospects for career progression.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage planning applications for energy and renewable infrastructure projects.
- Prepare planning strategies, planning statements and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and liaise with environmental specialists.
- Manage client relationships and provide strategic planning advice throughout the project lifecycle.
- Engage with local planning authorities, statutory consultees and key stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Development Consent Order (DCO) projects where appropriate.
- Mentor junior members of the planning team and contribute to their professional development.
- Assist with business development activities, including preparing fee proposals and supporting bids for new work.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
- Chartered membership of the RTPI (or eligibility to achieve chartership shortly).
- Significant experience within a planning consultancy, developer, infrastructure or public sector environment.
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system, particularly relating to energy and infrastructure development.
- Experience delivering renewable energy, electricity transmission, battery storage or wider infrastructure projects.
- Excellent report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong project management abilities with the confidence to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
