An established and growing planning consultancy is seeking a Planner to join its successful team in Cheltenham. This is an exciting opportunity for a planning professional with around 2–3 years' experience to work on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use and strategic development projects across the UK.
You will join a collaborative team of experienced planning professionals, taking on increasing responsibility while continuing your professional development in a supportive environment.
The Role
As a Planner, you will play an active role in delivering planning projects from inception through to determination, managing your own workload while supporting senior colleagues on larger and more complex schemes. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and managing planning applications across a variety of development sectors.
- Producing high-quality planning statements, appraisal reports and supporting documentation.
- Undertaking planning policy, site and planning history research.
- Liaising with local planning authorities, consultees, clients and external consultants.
- Supporting planning appeals, site promotion and strategic planning projects.
- Attending client meetings, site visits and public consultations where required.
- Monitoring changes in planning legislation and policy.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
About You
We are looking for an ambitious Planner who is looking to build on their existing experience within a consultancy or local authority environment. You will ideally have:
- A Master's degree in Town Planning or a related RTPI-accredited discipline.
- Approximately 2–3 years' professional planning experience.
- Be working towards RTPI membership, or already progressing via the Associate or Licentiate route towards MRTPI.
- Experience preparing and submitting planning applications.
- A sound understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and well-structured reports.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A proactive and commercially aware approach.
- A full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
