A leading national planning and development consultancy is looking to appoint an
Associate Director to join its established Birmingham team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional who is looking to take the next step in their career within a highly regarded consultancy, taking responsibility for major projects, key client relationships and the development of junior members of the team.
The Birmingham office forms part of a wider national network, providing the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues across the UK and on a diverse range of high-profile planning and development projects.
The Role
As an Associate Director, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality planning advice to a range of private and public sector clients.
Your responsibilities will include
- Leading and managing complex planning projects from inception through to delivery.
- Providing strategic planning advice across a broad range of development sectors.
- Managing and developing strong relationships with existing and new clients.
- Taking a lead role in business development and identifying new opportunities.
- Preparing and presenting planning strategies, reports and submissions.
- Managing planning applications, appeals, consultations and negotiations with local authorities and other stakeholders.
- Acting as a senior point of contact for clients and providing commercially focused planning advice.
- Leading project teams and coordinating input from colleagues and external consultants.
- Supporting and mentoring junior and mid-level planners.
- Contributing to the wider growth and profile of the Birmingham office.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider national business.
About You
We are looking for an experienced planning professional with a strong track record within the private sector.
You will ideally have
- MRTPI or equivalent professional qualification.
- Significant experience within a planning consultancy, developer or related private-sector environment.
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and development management.
- Experience managing complex planning projects and client relationships.
- A proven ability to lead projects and provide commercially focused planning advice.
- Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Experience in business development and winning new work.
- Leadership and mentoring experience.
- The confidence to operate at a senior level with clients, stakeholders and colleagues.
Candidates with experience across residential, strategic land, mixed-use, commercial, retail, regeneration or other major development projects are encouraged to apply.
