We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Transport Planner to support our Development Planning team in Oxford. The successful candidate will assist in the preparation of transport assessments, travel plans, and supporting technical documents for a wide range of residential, commercial, education, and mixed-use developments. Working closely with Associate and Senior Transport Planners, you will contribute to the delivery of transport planning projects from initial feasibility through to planning application and post-consent stages. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills, gain exposure to the planning process, and build a career in transport and development planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of Transport Assessments (TAs), Transport Statements (TSs), Travel Plans, and other supporting planning documents.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret transport, traffic, and accessibility data.
- Undertake site visits and assess local transport conditions, infrastructure, and accessibility.
- Support the preparation of planning application submissions and technical reports.
- Use transport planning software and spreadsheets to undertake data analysis and forecasting.
- Assist with junction capacity assessments and traffic impact studies.
- Prepare plans, figures, and presentation materials for reports and client meetings.
- Liaise with clients, local authorities, developers, architects, and other project stakeholders under supervision.
- Research local and national transport planning policies and guidance.
- Support senior team members in project management, programme monitoring, and report production.
- Maintain accurate project records and contribute to quality assurance procedures.
Skills and Experience
- Essential
- Degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

- Previous experience in transport planning, development planning, highways, or related consultancy work.
- Familiarity with UK planning policy and transport guidance.
- Experience using transport planning software such as Junctions, LinSig, TRICS, GIS, or similar tools.
- Membership of, or aspiration to join, a relevant professional institution such as the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) or Transport Planning Society (TPS).
- Full UK driving licence.
