We are working with a well-established independent planning consultancy based in Manchester, which is looking to appoint a Town Planner or Senior Town Planner as part of its continued growth. The business advises a wide range of private and public sector clients and is known for its pragmatic, high-quality planning advice. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects while progressing your career within a supportive and collaborative consultancy environment.
The Role
You will be involved in all aspects of the planning process, supporting projects from early site appraisal through to securing planning permission and delivery. Depending on experience, you will take responsibility for managing applications, liaising with clients, and supporting junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing, submitting, and managing planning applications and appeals
- Undertaking site appraisals and providing clear planning advice to clients
- Drafting planning statements, appeal statements, and supporting documents
- Engaging with local planning authorities, consultees, and stakeholders
- Monitoring national and local planning policy and advising on impacts
- Attending client meetings, site visits, and planning committees where required
- Supporting senior colleagues on complex or strategic schemes
- Managing projects independently and mentoring junior staff (Senior level)
About You
- Town Planner Degree qualified in Town Planning or a related discipline
- Working towards MRTPI accreditation
- Typically 1–3 years’ experience in consultancy or local authority planning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Well organised, proactive, and keen to progress
- Senior Town Planner MRTPI qualified
- Typically 4 years’ relevant planning experience
- Proven ability to manage planning applications and client relationships
- Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving skills
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members
