Our public sector client based in Sussex are searching for an Environmental Health Officer / Food Safety Officer to join their team on a contract basis from July 2026 to February 2027. This role involves undertaking a structured programme of food hygiene inspections across the district, with work allocated throughout the contract period and payment offered per inspection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out approximately 100 food hygiene inspections (Category C, D, and E) in line with regulatory standards.
  • Undertake inspections across the Mid Sussex district, primarily covering the area from Haywards Heath to East Grinstead.
  • Conduct some inspections during evening hours where required.
  • Ensure all inspections comply with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Food Law Code of Practice.
  • Accurately record findings, complete reports, and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Manage allocated workload and complete inspections within agreed timeframes.

Required Experience

  • Holds a Higher Certificate in Food Control (or equivalent relevant qualification).
  • Demonstrates competency in line with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Food Law Code of Practice.
