Principal Building Control Officer Local Authority Contract | Full Time | £70–£75 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35) Location: North West

Are you an experienced and qualified Building Control professional ready to step into a leadership role? We are working with a Local Authority in the North West who are seeking a Principal Building Control Officer to join their team on an initial 3-month temporary assignment, playing a key role in delivering high-quality Building Control services across the district.

The Opportunity

Working closely with the Building Control Manager, you will lead on a variety of complex applications and provide technical expertise while supporting and supervising a dedicated team. This is a dynamic, hands-on role combining office-based work, site inspections, and leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site inspections and plan checking (minimum 2 days on-site per week)
  • Assess a wide range of Building Control applications aligned with your accreditation
  • Respond to dangerous structures and ensure public safety
  • Enforce Building Regulations and the Building Act where necessary
  • Supervise and support senior and junior surveyors, as well as administrative staff
  • Deputise for the Building Control Manager when required
  • Support the implementation of BSR operational standards
  • Contribute to service improvements and procedural changes

Working Pattern

  • Minimum 1 day per week office-based
  • 2 days per week conducting site inspections across the district
  • Remaining time flexible depending on workload

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Professional qualifications from a recognised chartered institute, specialising in Building Control
  • Minimum Class 2F Registration
  • Chartered status with CIOB, RICS, or CABE
  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical expertise
