We are looking to recruit a Council Tax Officer to join our Revenues service and support the effective administration of Council Tax on a remote basis. This role is ideal for someone with experience working in a local authority environment and strong working knowledge of Northgate (NEC) Revenues systems.
The Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of Council Tax accounts, ensuring accuracy, compliance with legislation and high standards of customer service. The role involves working closely with colleagues across Revenues and Customer Services to support billing, collection and recovery activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer Council Tax accounts, including new accounts, amendments and closures
- Process discounts, exemptions, reductions and changes of circumstances
- Issue bills, reminders and notices in line with legislation and council procedures
- Undertake recovery action, including reminders, summonses and enforcement referrals
- Respond to customer enquiries by telephone, email and correspondence
- Liaise with internal services and external partners as required
- Accurately maintain records using Northgate (NEC) Revenues systems
- Ensure compliance with Council Tax legislation, policies and audit requirements
- Support collection performance and service targets
About You
You will have:
- Experience working in a local authority Council Tax service
- Working knowledge of Council Tax legislation and recovery processes
- Experience using Northgate (NEC) systems (essential)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage a varied caseload
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
