Our client is a local authority based in Hertfordshire, committed to protecting public health, the environment, and local communities. The council delivers a wide range of regulatory and environmental services and is seeking an experienced leader to support its Environmental Protection function during a period of increased demand.
We are recruiting an Environmental Protection Team Leader for an initial 3-month contract, starting ASAP. The role involves leading and managing a team delivering statutory environmental protection services, ensuring compliance with legislation and maintaining high standards of service delivery. This is a full-time role, working 37 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, manage, and support a team of Environmental Protection Officers
- Oversee the delivery of environmental protection services, including statutory nuisance, pollution control, and related enforcement work
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental health legislation, policies, and procedures
- Manage workloads, performance, and professional development of team members
- Provide expert technical advice on complex environmental protection cases
- Prepare reports and contribute to policy development and service improvement
- Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and stakeholders as required
- Significant experience working within environmental protection or environmental health in a local authority setting
- Proven experience of managing or supervising staff
- Strong knowledge of environmental protection legislation and enforcement processes
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet statutory deadlines
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
- Degree or professional qualification in Environmental Health or a related discipline
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIEH)
