I am working with a local authority based in the east central Lowlands of Scotland, looking for an interim to permanent Mechanical Engineer.
JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will work as part of a team to undertake and/or assist with the development, design and administration of mechanical engineering construction projects and planned improvements works being undertaken by Property Services.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/KEY TASKS
- Report to the Planned Improvements & Services Team Principal on site progress, contractor and consultant performance and observance with contract conditions and financial expenditure against budget for projects.
- Liaise with external consultant design teams to ensure quality of design meets briefing requirements and work progresses on programme and in accordance with the RIBA Plan of work.
- Perform duties as Contract Administrator on projects mainly involving mechanical refurbishment and energy related work.
- Ensure involvement of and consultation with Stakeholders in the delivery of Services.
- Provide design, technical and procurement advice and support the Council’s front line services on issues including brief and design development, option appraisals, feasibility studies, procurement options, quality control etc.
- Contribute to a culture of research and development in construction, engineering, specification and procurement issues and encourage innovation.
- Promote and embrace appropriate national initiatives such as Sustainable Construction.
- Assist in the development and implementation of consistent design, technical and specification standards.
- Ensure the implementation of good/best practice principles in all aspects of construction design and procurement.
- Ensure that all applicable regulations, legislation and standards relating to the Service’s activities are met and maintained.
- To assist in the development of mechanical safety standards and mechanical maintenance policies.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Educated to degree level in Mechanical Engineering with Membership of IMechE or CIBSE.
- Adequate post qualification experience evidencing a wide range of experience with varying property types.
- Evidence of ability to design, organise and administer contracts with the minimum of supervision.
- Evidence of a good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Mechanical related software packages.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- Experience of using NBS Create Specification writer.
