An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Interim Director of Waste Services to join a forward-thinking local authority in the South of England. This 12-month assignment will provide strategic and operational leadership across the council's waste, recycling and environmental services portfolio during a period of service transformation and improvement. The Role Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will lead the delivery of high-performing waste and recycling services, ensuring residents receive efficient, customer-focused and environmentally sustainable services. Key responsibilities include: * Providing strategic leadership for waste, recycling and fleet operations. * Driving service transformation and continuous improvement initiatives. * Managing significant operational budgets, contracts and partnerships. * Leading large multidisciplinary teams and developing a high-performance culture. * Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, health and safety requirements and environmental standards. * Advising senior officers and elected members on waste strategy and service delivery. * Delivering efficiencies, performance improvements and sustainable outcomes. * Supporting the council's environmental, climate and recycling ambitions. About You: Candidates will be able to demonstrate: * Extensive senior leadership experience within local authority waste, recycling or environmental services. * Experience operating at Head of Service, Assistant Director or Director level. * A successful track record of delivering transformation, savings programmes and service improvement. * Strong commercial and contract management expertise. * Experience managing political and stakeholder relationships within a local government setting. * Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills.
