We are looking for a highly organised and detail-focused Business Rates Administrator to join a specialist business rates team. This role provides essential administrative and operational support across client property portfolios, helping to ensure accurate billing, compliant processes, and a high standard of client service.
Working closely with senior consultants and finance colleagues, you will support the day-to-day management of business rates data, liaise with billing authorities, and assist clients with routine queries relating to their rates liabilities. This position is ideal for someone with strong administrative skills who is looking to build experience within business rates, property, or finance.
Key Responsibilities- Support the administration of multiple client property portfolios, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
- Review and verify business rates bills issued by billing authorities across England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.
- Maintain property databases, including occupation details, rateable values, and billing information.
- Assist with the administration of rates liabilities, including reliefs, exemptions, empty property charges, and occupation changes.
- Act as a point of contact for billing authorities and internal stakeholders to resolve routine queries.
- Process portfolio updates promptly and ensure system records are maintained correctly.
- Support payment cycles, including account reconciliations, monitoring credits, and assisting with refunds.
- Produce basic reports and data summaries to support forecasting and cost control.
- Assist with historical business rates audits and data reviews.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, statutory requirements, and service KPIs.
- Provide general administrative support to senior consultants and finance team members as required.
- Previous experience in an administrative, finance, property, or business rates role.
- Basic understanding of business rates and billing authorities (full training provided).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Good numeracy skills and confidence working with financial data.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (basic to intermediate level).
- Experience using rating or property management systems (e.g. Calcurate, Riverlake) is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deal professionally with clients and local authorities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
