The essential functions of the job for the Medication Technician require, and may be amended from time to time at the sole discretion of Viva Senior Living to include, but are not limited to the following:
- Comply with standards of business conduct in accordance with federal, state and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines, as applicable.
- Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.
- Must be able to work well with peers in a congenial work environment, and above all, maintain the utmost compassion and dignity to the residents and adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.
- In exigent circumstances, the employee may be subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, temporary staffing shortages, etc.).
- Must adhere to Viva Senior Living's attendance policies and follow the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must maintain the highest standards in caring and servicing the needs of the residents and residents' family members and loved ones.
- Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the accurate and timely distribution and documentation of medication for residents in accordance with each resident's physician's orders and applicable regulations.
- Assist residents in maintaining their total wellbeing by following the established Plan of Care, providing assistance with activities of daily living, social activities, dietary assistance, and Viva Senior Living's philosophies.
- Supervise and care for residents on a daily basis according to residents' needs.
- Aid with activities of daily living.
- Assistance with bathing, shower, and shampoo if necessary.
- Help with dressing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair and fingernail care if needed.
- Observe, supervise, and record resident self-administration of prescribed medications.
- Report refusals and/or reactions to supervisor on duty.
- Direct residents and family members to appropriate staff for other needs or information.
- Order meal trays for residents when needed.
- Report and record observations of changes in residents' condition to director or supervisor in the daily logbook.
- Transfer relevant information to the next shift through the shift-to-shift verbal report.
- Implement personal care plans for each resident.
- Be patient and understanding in communicating with staff, residents, and visitors. Speak slowly and clearly.
- Refer families to director or supervisor regarding status of residents when unsure of status.
- Provide assistance in dining room as needed.
- Administer medication as directed by supervisor.
- Answer emergency calls promptly and courteously, complete required paperwork afterward.
- Retrieve soiled linen and personal clothing from resident living areas. Sort and pre-soak linens as required before processing through washing machines.
- Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of a resident's room. Empty waste baskets, wipe up spills, wash dishes, put away clothes, check refrigerator for spoiled food, and make beds, change linens.
- Check for unsecured throw rugs and extension cords.
- Observe condition of room/apartment and report anything in need of repair to maintenance.
- Document clearly and objectively on residents in logbook and on other documents.
- Participate in in-service educational programs as required by the community and state.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
