We are actively recruiting a Band 2 and Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic and fast moving laboratory team based in Windsor, Berkshire.
PLEASE NOTE: Our laboratory is not accessible by public transport so you must be a driver with a full licence and access to a car.
Salary: £27,000 per annum (+ additional shift allowance)
The ‘What’ – the role
Reporting into the Senior Scientific Lead, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (‘MLA’) is responsible for analysis of pathology specimens and completing routine laboratory processes while ensuring the provision of a high-quality technical service at one of our pathology laboratories in the south-east.
Key responsibilities:
- Laboratory Admin: Receive specimens, record patient and test details into the LIMS and prepare specimens for further preparation. Prepare reagents ensure adequate stock and storage of laboratory reagents. Managing and maintain storage of samples pre and post analysis. Maintain laboratory housekeeping in line with 5S and lean principles.
- Sample Analysis: Perform maintenance and IQC as per local procedures in line with ISO15189:2012. Perform basic analytical techniques as required in collaboration with registered BMS staff. Liaise with clinical and operational staff on progress and status of specimens.
- Quality/Compliance: Ensuring adherence to all laboratory SOPs, policies and processes. Performing work in line with ISO15189 requirements. Performing work in line with company EHS and general best laboratory practices.

The ‘Who’: About you
- Band 2 or Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant
- Entrepreneurial spirit: helping to establish new laboratory sites in collaboration with the YD senior leadership team, define the testing.
- Ideally possess multidisciplinary experience: Have experience in clinical diagnostic Hematology, Biochemistry and Immunology.
- Experience with a wide array of analysers both point of care and laboratory based.
- Ideally possess 6 months experience working within a ISO15189 accredited blood sciences laboratory.
- Super organised: used to juggling multiple projects with different priorities and working to short deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail: our team rely on us to ensure projects run perfectly.
- Tech savvy: confident using MS Office.
- Have a growth mindset: we’re growing fast, and you’ll be expected to offer ideas where processes can be improved and drive your own personal development.
- Excellent verbal and written skills: you should be able to draft clear, concise communications, adapting tone & style as appropriate.
The ‘When’: Office Hours
You will work 40 hours each week - to work anytime between 4.00am - 12.00am, Monday – Sunday, depending on the needs of the business (5 days out of 7).

The Stables, New Lodge, Winkfield, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 4RR. Due to the location of our lab, all candidates must be drivers with a full licence and have access to a car.
