What this role is all about:
As a Quality Audit Underwriter, you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding underwriting excellence. Your primary responsibility will be to lead and deliver a robust audit programme focused on manually underwritten policies—ensuring decisions are accurate and processes are consistently followed. You’ll also contribute to retrospective underwriting of claims and collaborate across teams to drive continuous improvement.
Key Actions
- Deliver and manage an underwriting audit programme for manually underwritten policies, ensuring both the accuracy of choices and the integrity of the processes followed.
- Record audit findings accurately and consistently.
- Analyse audit outcomes to identify trends, highlight areas for improvement, and share best practices.
- Work closely with underwriting teams to provide constructive feedback and drive continuous improvement in underwriting quality and consistency.
- Cooperate with the Automated Underwriting Team to recommend enhancements to question sets and underwriting philosophy.
- Evaluate and suggest improvements to the data collection process to support effective auditing and meaningful data analysis.
- Participate in monthly QA moderation meetings to assess and calibrate the classification of errors.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of underwriting philosophy, systems, reinsurance manuals, and internal guidelines.
- Support retrospective underwriting of claims as required.
- Involvement in the post-issue sampling programme.
- Attendance in reinsurance meetings and industry events.

- Proven experience as a Senior Underwriter, with strong medical and financial knowledge across Life, Serious Illness, and Income Protection products.
- A solid understanding of underwriting quality assurance principles and practices.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and support change.
