What this role is all about:
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who’s passionate about using data to make a positive impact. You’ll take ownership of building scalable data pipelines, working independently while collaborating with teams across the business. As a trusted expert, you’ll communicate clearly, support data science delivery, and coach others, while continuously exploring new ways to improve our technology and bring fresh data into the organisation.
Key Actions:
- Work closely with our Data Engineering team to deliver reliable, high-quality data that powers strong data flows and predictive models
- Use a range of languages and tools to build and manage robust data pipelines across multiple systems
- Contribute to key decisions that drive a strong, outcome-focused (SWAT) approach
- Explore new opportunities to bring in data and unlock more value from what we already have
- Collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, Architecture and wider tech teams to design, build, test and maintain scalable data environments
- Understand GDPR principles and confidently raise any concerns where needed
- Show genuine curiosity for new technologies and a strong interest in the Vitality business
- Support and mentor fellow Data Engineers to help the team grow
- Listen actively to both technical and business needs, and communicate complex ideas in a clear, accessible way
- Spot potential challenges early and proactively shape solutions that build trust and deliver great outcomes
What do you need to thrive?
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Systems, Sciences or Maths
- 5+ years’ experience across BI, data warehousing, data management and ETL
- Strong experience delivering data solutions in BI warehouses and/or data lakes (on-prem & cloud)
- Hands-on with Big Data tools, data ingestion and streaming
- Experience working with data lakes and visualisation (incl. semantic modelling)
- Strong understanding of data architecture
- Confident stakeholder engagement and cross-team collaboration
- Passion for sharing knowledge and supporting team development
