What this role is all about
We’re looking for an experienced Actuarial Manager to take a senior role in shaping the experience analysis and actuarial assumptions that underpin Vitality Life’s financial models, projections and key business decisions. With significant ownership across mortality, morbidity and persistency, this role will lead the interpretation of portfolio experience, identify emerging trends and determine how these should translate into robust actuarial assumptions. Working independently across complex actuarial matters, the Actuarial Manager will provide clear technical judgement on the impact of assumption changes across reserves, capital, profitability and forecasting, while partnering with senior stakeholders across Finance, Reinsurance, Pricing and Underwriting to influence decisions and strengthen actuarial insight across the business.
What you will be doing
- Lead the analysis of mortality, morbidity and persistency experience across the life portfolio, identifying material trends and their financial and commercial implications.
- Own the end-to-end process for setting, reviewing and maintaining actuarial assumptions, ensuring recommendations are supported by robust analysis and actuarial judgement.
- Assess the impact of assumption changes across reserves, capital, profitability and forecasts to support effective financial and business decision-making.
- Maintain strong governance around actuarial assumptions, with clear documentation, controls and reporting through relevant governance forums.
- Build, develop and enhance complex Prophet models, ensuring assumptions, risks and outputs are robust, clearly justified and appropriately documented.
- Use internal and external data and wider market insight to challenge results, solve complex actuarial problems and strengthen the quality of analysis.
- Partner with Finance, Reinsurance, Pricing and Underwriting to provide actuarial expertise, challenge and insight on significant business decisions.
- Present complex experience and assumption findings to senior stakeholders and governance forums, translating technical analysis into clear implications and recommendations.
- Drive improvements across actuarial models, experience reporting, data processes and automation to strengthen efficiency, control and quality.
- Provide technical oversight, review and coaching to actuarial colleagues, supporting capability and high standards without formal line management responsibility.
What do you need to thrive?
- Qualified or nearly qualified member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, or an equivalent professional body.
- Strong actuarial expertise with the judgement to interpret complex experience, identify material issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Strong understanding of actuarial experience analysis, assumption setting and the actuarial control cycle.
- Ability to work independently on complex actuarial matters and take ownership for the quality and delivery of technically demanding work.
- Strong actuarial modelling capability with the ability to build, develop, challenge and document complex models.
- Ability to translate complex actuarial information into clear, commercially relevant recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge, influence and build effective relationships across the business.
- Experience providing technical guidance, review or coaching to other actuarial professionals.
- Experience with IFRS reporting, particularly IFRS 17, would be advantageous.
- Experience with Prophet and knowledge of R, SQL or Power BI would be advantageous.
