About The Role
Team Underwriting & Claims – Life
Working Pattern – This can be worked as a hybrid set-up out of our Bournemouth, London or Stockport offices as well as remotely/home based. Full time, 37.5 hours per week.

What this role is all about:
In this role youll assess applications for life, serious illness, and income protection cover, working closely with colleagues across underwriting, operations, and distribution to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes. Supporting our priority distribution partners, youll strengthen relationships through expert guidance and teamwork all while living our core values of innovation, collaboration, and doing the right thing.
Key Actions
- Underwrite life, serious illness, and income protection applications in line with Vitalitys underwriting philosophy and quality standards.
- Collaborate with brokers to guide applications through the underwriting process smoothly and efficiently.
- Provide authorisation and support for applications assessed by less experienced underwriters.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Vitalitys underwriting and service propositions.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes and a joined-up approach to member protection.
What do you need to thrive?
- Proven experience in underwriting life, serious illness, and income protection applications.
- Exposure to reinsurance relationships and understanding of their impact on underwriting decisions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with brokers and internal teams.
- Confident collaborating across multiple business divisions to support joined-up decision-making.
- Ability to mentor and authorise applications from less experienced underwriters.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, regulated environment with a focus on quality and consistency.
