Director of Finance and Commercial Location: Cardiff (Hybrid – 2/3 days per week in office) Contract Length: 6 months Contract rate: £900 – £950 per day umbrella Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Finance and Commercial to provide strategic leadership across financial, commercial, and economic activities. This is a pivotal role during a period of transformation, ensuring robust financial stewardship, governance, and value-for-money decision-making at board level. Essential Experience & Skills: * Senior financial leadership in complex environments (public sector preferred). * Proven track record in financial management, value for money, and strategic planning. * Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams through change and influencing at board level. * Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills in high-pressure settings. * Expertise in public sector financial control, Managing Public Money, and high-value procurement. * Fully qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA, or equivalent) with ongoing professional development. Desirable: * Experience in risk management, corporate assurance, or efficiency target delivery. * Commercial acumen aligned with public sector best practices. You will need for the Director of Finance & Commercial: * Lead Finance, Commercial, and Economics functions, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and government standards (e.g., Managing Public Money). * Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO and Executive Team, including spending reviews and fee assessments. * Act as: * Lead Executive for the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee * Full member of the Main Board * Accountable Executive for risk management and corporate assurance * Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee and Commercial Assurance Panel * Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, procurement strategies, and service delivery. * Champion evidence-based decision-making for major investments and initiatives. * Strengthen stakeholder relationships with government bodies to support financial and investment decisions. * Oversee statutory reporting, including annual reports and accounts.
