As a result of continued company growth, we are looking for an experienced BMS engineer to join our team here at Vital. Our department is responsible for creating and implementing cost-effective, low-carbon energy solutions for our public and private sector customers across the UK. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the design, delivery, and verification of our BMS energy conservation initiatives. You will also provide BMS support to our wider low-carbon energy solutions and the project delivery teams.

Projects you will be involved in will include the optimisation of existing BMS control strategies, the partial and full upgrade of obsolete BMS controls and associated network infrastructure, and the integration, control, and monitoring of low carbon solutions such as Solar PV, heat pumps, and hydronic system optimisation.

The Role:

As a BMS optimisation project engineer, you will work closely with the team on all aspects of our BMS energy savings initiatives with a key focus on project implementation. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Carrying out detailed surveys of BMS and controlled HVAC equipment to support the identification of BMS and HVAC energy conservation initiatives.
  • Assessing the baseline performance of BMS control strategies through the interrogation of strategy drawings, O&M documentation, and observed operating conditions.
  • Identifying and collecting existing BMS logs, or setting up new logging as applicable, to support the modelling of potential BMS and HVAC energy savings initiatives.
  • Working closely with our BMS sub-contractor supply chain to design and cost BMS energy savings initiatives for EPC tenders, high-level assessment, and investment grade proposals.
  • Working closely with the BMS sub-contractor supply chain to create, review, and seek client approval of BMS reviewable design data such as control philosophy, risk assessment, method statement, and impact assessment.
  • Working closely with our project delivery teams to ensure BMS initiatives are delivered to the agreed design specifications within the timeframe and budget.
  • Supporting the commissioning, witness testing, and handover of delivered BMS energy savings initiatives.
  • Supporting the measurement and verification of guaranteed energy savings.

This is a remote role that offers a balance of home-based working with travel to project sites and travel to our office in Read, Burnley. It is not a site-based role and there is no expectation for full-time work away from home.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will be a hardworking and self-motivated individual with demonstrable experience delivering BMS optimisation and upgrade projects. They will have experience working with BMS sub-contractors and project delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered to specification and within agreed budget and timeframes.

Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in energy performance contracting would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of BMS and HVAC control strategy design and operation.
  • Experience delivering BMS projects through the BMS sub-contractor supply chain.
  • Experience integrating HVAC plant into BMS with a good working knowledge of common high-level networks such as BACnet, Modbus, and MBus.
  • Experience working with customer IT teams to identify and deliver IT infrastructure upgrades to migrate from proprietary BMS networks to Ethernet-based systems.
  • Highly motivated with good communication skills (oral and written).
  • Good at problem-solving with a focused attention to detail.
  • Passionate and take pride in their work.
  • Flexible approach to managing workload with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft software packages including, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Full UK driving licence.
