Who We Are
Primary Care UK consists of Williams Medical with revenues of c.Β£60M and SP Services with revenues of c.Β£10M, both specialise in providing a wide range of medical, healthcare products and equipment to healthcare professionals and organisations. Primary Care UK employs approximately 200 people across two purpose-built facilities, one in Telford, West Midlands England and one in Rhymney, South Wales.
Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly capable Assistant Accountant to support the finance function for an FMCG business within the health care industry. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for the month-end management accounts process and supporting the FC with financial reporting, audit preparation, balance sheet control and budgeting. This role is ideal for a Part-Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA) looking to broaden their exposure across a full finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts including journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Assist with production of the monthly KPI and financial performance packs.
- Perform variance analysis and provide insightful commentary to the FC and budget holders.
- Support forecasting and annual budgeting processes.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations with clear audit trails and timely resolution of issues.
- Support stock accounting processes, GRNI analysis and margin reporting.
- Assist with group reporting and consolidation submissions.
- Provide support with VAT, corporation tax data and treasury tasks as required.
- Prepare audit working papers and respond to auditor queries.
- Support the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end schedules.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, RPA activity and SAP optimisation.
- Suggest and implement improvements to financial processes and controls.
- Provide occasional cover across AP/AR and wider finance as needed.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- AAT Level 4 or Part-Qualified ACCA/CIMA (or actively studying).
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, etc).
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred but not essential).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes.
- High attention to detail with excellent organisation and time-management skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to work with stakeholders across the business.
- Proactive, problem-solving mindset with the desire to learn and progress.
