Vital Energi’s Engineering teams deliver a range of innovative solutions to support our clients to generate and distribute low carbon energy, with projects ranging from the construction of low carbon energy centres and district heat networks, to building solar farms, to upgrading old inefficient boiler systems with energy efficient heat pumps.
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to provide proactive support to our Engineering teams across a diverse portfolio of construction and infrastructure projects throughout the South Region. This is an excellent opportunity for a health and safety professional with experience in a multi-site, high-hazard construction or industrial environment who is passionate about driving a positive safety culture and influencing safe behaviours. You will act as a trusted advisor to operational teams, helping to identify and manage risk, ensure compliance with legislation, and support the safe delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical health and safety support and guidance across multiple project sites.
- Promote compliance with company policies, CDM 2015 regulations and industry best practice.
- Review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) to ensure foreseeable risks are identified and robust controls are in place.
- Support project teams in managing high-risk activities including excavation works, working at height, lifting operations, confined spaces and temporary works.
- Undertake regular site inspections, audits and performance reviews, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, conducting root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions.
- Work closely with subcontractors and delivery partners to drive high standards of health and safety performance.
- Deliver safety briefings, inductions, toolbox talks and support employee engagement initiatives.
- Monitor and report on H&S performance, supporting compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Contribute to the development of a positive, proactive and collaborative safety culture across the business.
About You
- Experience providing health and safety support within a construction, engineering, industrial or CDM project environment.
- Strong knowledge of construction-related hazards and controls.
- The ability to engage, influence and challenge stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience reviewing RAMS and advising on high-risk activities.
- Excellent communication, investigation and problem-solving skills.
- A proven track record of promoting and embedding a positive safety culture.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (essential).
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (desirable).
- Internal Auditor qualification relating to ISO 9001, 14001 and/or 45001 (desirable).
- Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. IOSH) desirable.
