Overview

If so, we're looking for a Skilled Commissioning Engineer to join our specialist team where they will take direct responsibility for the day-to‑day operation and maintenance of a number of Vital Energi’s plantrooms, solar farms, and boiler rooms. This role would suit an experienced commissioning engineer with mechanical, electrical, or controls systems experience. It is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, problem solving, and seeing energy projects come to life, working within a variety of plant rooms and solar farms. Vital Energi is a leading provider of renewable energy infrastructure and systems to the public and private sectors. We support hospitals, universities, new builds, towns and cities, as well as industrial and commercial clients to decarbonise their buildings. We continue to work on ground‑breaking projects throughout the UK, supporting the UK’s Net Zero targets, such as the recently announced £1 billion low‑carbon infrastructure project for Westminster. Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and carry out commissioning activities across solar farms, energy centres, and boiler houses.
  • Develop detailed commissioning plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Conduct pre‑commissioning inspections and functional testing of plant, equipment, and systems.
  • Verify that all systems meet operational and performance requirements before handover.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve commissioning issues, escalating where necessary.
  • Collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and clients throughout the commissioning process.
  • Produce accurate and comprehensive commissioning records, test data, and reports.
  • Support handover to operations teams, ensuring all documentation is complete and training is provided.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies at all times.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the commissioning department.

Qualifications and Experience

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering.
  • Proven experience in commissioning within the energy, utilities, or renewables sectors.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, instrumentation, and electrical safety.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Renewable Energy technologies such as Heat Pumps and Solar is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with PLCs.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.
