Due to Vital Energi’s continued growth, we require a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, based at our London Office in Holborn, to work in this exciting and growing sector of the industry.

About the role
Reporting to the Design Director, this role involves a broad range of conceptual to fully detailed designs including District and communal Heating systems and energy centre design. This will include taking and/or producing concept designs and then developing this into a fully detailed design for the projects team to install from on site, along with further site support to the delivery team by means of site visits and technical assistance. This will at times include initial project conceptual work, site investigations and surveys, client meetings and input into project submissions and presentations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design of distributed energy schemes, energy centres, DH networks up to the point of heat delivery.
- Provide support on larger projects.
- Appraisal and interpretation of the client’s requirements.
- Have an awareness of cost implications within design.
- Effectively deal with design issues and minimise their impact.
- Ability to design systems in the form of calculations, equipment selection and process operation.
- Liaising with external designers, customers and Vital Energi’s in-house project teams.
- Compliance with CDM requirements and our in-house design processes.
- Conduct HAZOP studies and Risk Assessments.
- Ability to design systems in the form of schematics, calculations, equipment selection, detailed drawings and BMS control operating strategies.
- Ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice with company procedures.
- Assistance in specifying the mechanical aspects for tendering works.
- Work closely with the client to further develop relationships and promote the company.
What you will need
The successful candidates will ideally be qualified at Degree level with a minimum of 5-7 years experience in a design / design & build environment. The individuals will have:
- Sound understanding of design principles including heating/cooling distribution, Boiler/CHP/heat pump systems.
- Good understanding of current Building Regulations (particularly Approved Documents G, L & J) and Heat Network Code of Practice (2020).
- An interest and some knowledge in air, water and ground source heat pump technologies.
- A familiarity of design specifications (/NBS) and in AutoCAD (2D).
- Experience/competence of being effective communicators, who are confident and focused, with the ability to manage their time and duties in a professional and effective way.
