Due to continuing growth, we are looking to strengthen our Operations & Maintenance team in the North West with a Plant Room Engineer. While this role has traditionally been mechanically focused, we are now welcoming applicants with experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Solar, or Steam systems. Candidates do not need to have experience in all areas.
As a Plant Room Engineer, you will work within Energy Centres, Hospital Plant Rooms, and similar environments. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of systems that generate and distribute energy including heating, cooling, power, and renewable technologies.
We welcome applicants with backgrounds in:
- Mechanical plant (boilers, pumps, CHP, chillers, valves, pipework)
- Electrical systems (control panels, motors, LV distribution, fault finding)
- Solar PV (inverters, arrays, monitoring systems)
- Steam systems (boilers, condensate systems, steam distribution)
You do not need experience in all of these areas; strong capability in one is sufficient.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and oversee plant equipment (boilers, CHP units, chillers, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, compressors, pipework, etc.).
- Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
- Monitor system performance, pressures, flow rates, and energy efficiency.
- Diagnose faults in mechanical, electrical, solar, or steam systems depending on your background.
- Carry out corrective repairs or escalate to specialist contractors.
- Ensure minimal disruption to building or energy centre operations.
- Use BMS or SCADA systems to monitor plant operation.
- Record and report system data (temperatures, pressures, energy consumption).
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations (HVAC, Gas Safe, water hygiene, LOLER, PUWER, electrical safety, etc.).
- Complete risk assessments, method statements, and follow all health & safety protocols.
- Support plant upgrades, refurbishments, and commissioning of new equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.
- Complete job sheets, service reports, and compliance documentation.

What You Will Need
- A City & Guilds qualification or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Solar, or Steam engineering.
- Experience with mechanical seals, bearings, pressurisation units, or relevant equipment in your discipline.
- Full UK manual driving licence.
